The Lions of Alberta Foundation lists the following as areas of need for charitable funding:
1. Support and maintenance of medical facilities, equipment purchases, medical research, handicapped facilities and organizations;
2. Health care centres, medical research associations and senior citizens centres;
3. Immediate assistance of families suffering fire loss, accident victims, and tragedies (means test applied);
4. Refugee funds to assist newcomers in becoming culturally attuned and productive in this society;
5. Development and support of educational, historical and religious societies and museums;
6. Financial assistance to needy families when Alberta Health Care or medical insurance cannot cover the cost of necessary medical attention;
7. Youth projects, camps and community clubs (ie Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and 4-H Clubs);
8. Community recreation facilities (i.e. skating rinks, parks, playgrounds);
9. Assisting youth sport and athletic associations ;
10. Support and maintenance of public libraries;
11. Cultural events, such as music festivals.
